Coronavirus news live – 43,995 deaths and gyms should be able to reopen soon

The total coronavirus death toll in the UK – as of Thursday – stands at 43,995.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister said on LBC on Friday: ‘We are going to reopen gyms as soon as we can do it in a Covid-secure way and I think that the date for reopening gyms at the moment, if we can do it, is in just a couple of weeks’ time.’

He also added he wants to be able to reopen theatres ‘as fast as we possibly can’.

‘The best way forward for the country is to get the economy moving again,’ he said, ‘We want to get every part of our industry, including theatres, that are so vital.’
