Five Extinction Rebellion protesters have been arrested
Five Extinction Rebellion members have been arrested after a protest at the Shell garage on Newnham Road.
Demonstrators from the climate change activist group blocked access to the petrol station all day, climbed on top of the roof and covered the area in fake “oil”.
The group blocked all vehicles from entering the petrol station by holding up a large banner which read “Life or Death”.
At least one of the protesters reportedly glued themselves to the roof of the building. Police attended the scene and instructed the demonstrators to get off the roof.
A Cambridgeshire Police spokesman said: “Five people have been arrested following an incident involving protesters at a Shell garage in Newnham Road this afternoon (21 February).
“Officers attended the scene, along with ambulance and fire crews.
“All five have been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, with four also being arrested of suspicion of aggravated trespass. They remain in custody”.
